Opply raises $7.5M for its agentic operating system for consumer brands
Opply, a London company founded in 2021 by Helen Murphy and Martin Postel, has raised $7.5M (about £5.6M) led by Chalfen Ventures, with Index Ventures, Anthemis and Entrepreneurs First also taking part. It calls itself “the agentic operating system for CPG brands,” and the money is to expand Brain — the AI agent system that runs the unglamorous operational guts of a consumer-goods business.
What Brain does
Running a food or drinks brand means a grind of back-office work: finding suppliers and co-manufacturers, pooling purchasing to get better rates, raising and tracking purchase orders, chasing on-time delivery, managing payment terms, and keeping certificates and compliance current. Opply’s pitch is that a set of coordinated agents, sitting on the company’s operational data and supplier network, can run most of that — including offering brands extended payment terms of up to 90 days, an embedded-finance twist on top of the automation.
It is the same pattern as Metaview in recruiting or Nous in household admin: pick a specific, documentation-heavy domain and point agents at the whole workflow rather than one task. The vertical focus is the bet — deep knowledge of how CPG operations actually work is what a general model lacks.
The honest read
Opply’s quoted results — cost reductions of up to 40%, a 12-fold return within a year, and roughly 15x revenue growth — are company-reported, so treat them as the direction of travel rather than audited fact. Agentic procurement is also filling up fast, with several London startups chasing adjacent ground. And the embedded-finance element, while a smart wedge, adds credit risk to what is otherwise a software business. But a $7.5M round with Index and Chalfen behind it, aimed at a real and tediously manual corner of commerce, is a credible place to be building agents that do rather than suggest.
