Writes about UK AI as someone who builds and ships it, not just reports on it.
Leon Mallett is the founder and editor of UK AI News. He is also the founder of Captivated Ltd, an AI-first software and research studio building local-first, privacy-minded AI tools for desktop and mobile — alongside a growing set of educational resources that help people put AI to work in their jobs and their lives.
Before and alongside that, he has spent 15 years building technology startups. He is COO of IAM Technology Group, a B2B software company he helped grow to more than 4,000 business customers and over two million users. The perspective here is an operator’s as much as a writer’s: what it actually takes to build, ship, and sell software.
He started UK AI News because the UK has one of the world’s most important AI ecosystems and deserves coverage that connects each story to the bigger picture. He writes about it as someone who ships AI software himself — close enough to the technology to explain what is genuinely new, and sceptical enough to say when something isn’t.
